Northern Cali here comes your southern son.
Short and sweet...
For those who care, I'll be all over northern California for the rest of the week.
SIGNING AT ILLUSIVE COMICS IN SANTA CLARA, CA. WED. FEB. 20

At their website I'm identified as, "The extremely talented Joshua Dysart." They know the score!
Come on out and I'll open up your chi with my mind. Apparently, if all goes well, there will be rare
copies of the "Captain Gravity and the Power of the Vril" trades for sale. I plan on buying
quite a few for myself.
Jump through the link above for more information.
While at the store I'll be a guest on the Fanboy Planet Podcast.
I'll be the one not saying much. I became a writer so I could carefully craft my sentences, not
improvise my big money skills on the spot like some refer smoking jazz musician. Speaking is far too
undisciplined a use for words.
Continuing on in the vein of making an ass out of myself in public...
SPEAKING AT THE SANTA CLARA CITY LIBRARY FEB. 21

Thursday Feb. 21. I will discuss the comic book industry, the craft and spirit of storytelling, what role
comics will play in the media-saturated future, what makes comics unique as a medium and my recent
research trip to the Northern Ugandan war zone for the upcoming Unknown Soldier revamp from DC.
Or you know... whatever the hell you want to talk about.
More info here at the Santa Clara City Library website.

WONDERCON STARTS IN SAN FRANCISCO FEB. 22!!

Friday is Wondercon!! My first convention of the year!
I do love Wondercon. it's in a great city. The convention isn't too big. And lots of people I love will be
there.
Anyone who wants to start a fight can find me signing at the Dark Horse booth during these times...
Friday Feb. 22
5:00 - 6:00 Hellboy, B.P.R.D.: Mike Mignola, Joshua Dysart
&
Sunday Feb. 24
12:00 - 1:00 Hellboy, B.P.R.D.: Mike Mignola, Joshua Dysart
Here's the full signing schedule for Dark Horse.
Check the DC BOOTH schedule too while you're on the floor. See if I'm on it. You've got a better
chance of talking to me at DC since I'll be signing with Mignola at DH, and it'll be a little crazy.
ADDED BONUS APPEARANCE...
COMICS ON COMICS MARCH 5!

Apparently, I'll be recording a podcast for Comics on Comics in front of a live
audience. I'm told it's a mixture of comedians and comic book creators involved in a panel-like
conversation.
From the email sent to me...
"The show will be set up in a round-table format similar to Politically Incorrect and is shooting
March 5 at the ACME Theater at 135 N. La Brea in Hollywood. Showtime is 8pm"
I'm very curious to see how this is going to turn out. I'm just not a very funny guy in person.
(The still frame above is from the cartoon "Swing You Sinners", and has nothing to do with anything)
BPRD #2 is on the shelves now! Go buy it!!

Writers: Mike Mignola & Joshua Dysart

Cover Artist: Mike Mignola
Colorist: Nick Filardi
Editor: Scott Allie
Assistant Editor: Rachel Edidin
"While war is horrible for the things that men do to one another, it is also horrible for the simple
blind, random tragedies that reach out and touch, not just combatants, but also spectators. Mignola
and Dysart have crafted a story that captures this callous truth while also making a spooky tale that is
worthy of the Hellboy property."

"Even one issue in you can tell you're in for a wild ride"

Cold War chess genius Bobby Fischer dies in Iceland
America's first and only world chess champion dies at age 64 in Reykjavik after a serious illness.

On his life and the controversy behind his numerous anti-Semitic remarks and tirades against the US here.
(Note... the following posts are all culled from my friend Jack's peer to peer mail out list. He and others on the list did all the digging. I just dressed the links up pretty and am sharing them with you. Scroll down a ways to see the pics from my signing with Mike Mignola)
Nature As Amusement Park
Artist Ilkka Halso believes that, once we're done depleting the ozone, destroying the rainforests, and using up all arable land, nature will be on view in amusement parks.

More awesome imagery here.
Eight Reasons Why The Hero's Journey Sucks
Great article here on how lazy writers use the Hero's Journey template.
Some highlights...
"It discourages originality".
"The 'hero' is always a man".
"It confuses personal growth with solving problems".
Etc.
It's a good read that I couldn't agree with more.

The Day, upcoming MMO...
I don't play mmo's, too much of a time suck, but the concept work is amazing!!

The '30s and '40s: In Living Color!

The Library of Congress has uploaded thousands of photographs to Flickr, including tons of color photographs from the '30s and '40s which are just stunning, given that we pretty much always only see that era in black and white.
