Leif Jones Takes on Conan

Posted on by Joshua Dysart Posted in Art, Comic Books, Journal | Leave a comment

Several months ago I featured Sal Velluto’s awesome images of young Conan. Now I proudly bring you more interpretations of the greatest barbarian in town.

Here’s a page Leif Jones did back when Dark Horse was first looking for an artist on their monthly.

A little Bob Fingerman. A little Richard Corben. A whole lotta Leif!

Mr. Jones is a goddamned art monster. His work makes me high. I can’t get enough of it. I just want to shove him up my ass so the art can filter straight into my bloodstream (I’m afraid of needles, so injecting him is out).

Written On The City is a profoundly engaging, minimalist and beautiful website designed to distill the distinct voices of the greatest Cities in the world by allowing users to submit photographs of urban poetry and text that has been stenciled across, graphitized upon and splashed over the concrete jungles of mankind. There’s something spiritual about these anonymous messages to ourselves.

Granted, the collection is a little anemic right now, I hope that by posting this I’m inspiring people to go out and start shooting.

Check it out. Participate.

I notice that there is no listing for Los Angeles yet… I’m dying to get my new digital camera!

“A life-size replica of a Guantanamo Bay detainee has been placed in Disneyland by “guerrilla artist” Banksy. The hooded figure was placed inside the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ride at the California theme park last weekend. It is understood to have remained in place for 90 minutes before the ride was closed down and the figure removed.” – full article here

Banksy is due to hold what is billed as a “three day vandalised warehouse extravaganza” in Los Angeles this weekend.

Sal is the wonderful artist that worked on CAPTAIN GRAVITY AND THE POWER OF THE VRIL with me. A while back he did these images of Conan at 17 years old and since they’ve never seen the light of day I thought I’d share them with you.
